Screw.com launched in summer of 2006 and has been offering downloadable and streaming DVD smut ever since. I have visited this collection several times over the years and it's a pretty standard offering within the DVD download category. You'll see tons of hot stars from dozens and dozens of different studios and in many different genres, but can screw.com compete with the big boys in the DVD category and if it really all that? Let's take a closer look inside the members area and find out!
The first thing I noticed when I entered the screw.com members area is that the collection seems to have shrunk. A quick count confirmed my suspicions. Although the site offered well over 1400 full-length titles just months ago, my visit in June of 2011 revealed that the collection has shrunk to less than a third of its former size with only about 400 titles available currently. I have no idea where the missing titles went, but I can guess that they're probably being added back to the site as "new updates." Unfortunately, this reduction in size puts screw.com very far behind the crowd when it comes to quantity. This is now one of the smallest DVD download collections out there.
Like most similar sites offering DVD titles for streaming and download, the collection here at screw.com covers a very wide variety of porno categories. These include blondes, feet, gonzo, group sex, BBWs, Asians, fetish, facials, oral sex, teens, natural breasts, and even she males, among many others. With a smaller than average collection when compared to other sites in the category, screw.com unfortunately cannot cover some of the rarer and more unusual niches and certainly doesn't offer the variety within each niche that a larger collection could.
Quality here is a bit below average. At 640 x 480 pixels, 2000 kbps for most downloads and even smaller for others, these would have been standard for DVD download sites several years ago when the site launched, but these days we definitely need to see a bump in order for this one to be able to compete. Luckily, even if these aren't the largest and highest resolution videos available out there, all the flicks I downloaded were pretty good in terms of clarity and most can even be enlarged somewhat without losing any noticeable quality.
Like most other sites featuring DVD materials, the tour pages here are a mirror image of the members' area. Visitors can see a sneak peek of the entire collection including every single full-length title and scene available on the site and they can even check out the advanced search page to see exactly what the site has to offer and how it works.
A basic keyword search box allows members to search by title or porn star name while the advanced search page gives options for titles, description, keywords, porn star, category, and studio. While this is fairly comprehensive, it really can't hold a candle to some of the extremely advanced and complex search tools offered by other similar sites, and the browse features could definitely be improved.
Options for accessing the materials here are also fairly basic and don't venture into the more advanced options, like custom clips, offered elsewhere. You can view the collection by scene or title and, at least in theory, the materials are available for download in your choice of WMV, MPEG/XVID, and portable formats. Unfortunately, various download links for at least half of the videos I tried to watch simply did not work. No amount of clicking more refreshing the page was able to solve this problem, and for these titles I either had to choose a different format to download (if another was even available) or simply stream the title. These download issues, combined with the fact that the collection has lost over a third of its size since my last visit, make me worry a bit about the future for screw.com.
With its mysteriously shrinking collection, below average quality, and massive download problems that interfere with the enjoyment of this site, screw.com doesn't have a lot going for it. Daily updates don't mean much when titles disappear at random, and there are so many better choices in the DVD download category but it's hard to get excited all about this one.
