When Southern Strokes first started out in 2008, it was all about amateur guys from the deep south of America. It still is, but now, they have made additions, shared content from other related sites, and added more of their own original videos. The guys now range in age from 18 to 40, and it’s not simply solo action anymore. Along with the solo scenes and galleries, you have more hardcore, interracial, and age mixing among the still amateur models. Variety and hot USA dick. What could be better?
I think it’s fair to say that Southern Strokes is a straightforward, non-nonsense and no-frills amateur guy porn site. It’s also fair to say it’s a well-established one that knows how to put out decent solo and hardcore movies, and as these feature a wide variety of guys of all ages, it’s also fair to say they know how to do their recruiting. There are 440 models in the model index, and although there is little information about them (apart, perhaps, from some interviews), you get to select which one you want to see more of before heading off into the wonderful world of Southern Strokes videos.
Once upon a time, during our last visit a few years ago, we came across only 304 movies, and there was no streaming. These had various download options, but were fairly ‘of the old School.’ Now, every video at Southern Strokes is in Mp4 format, and you only have one choice of resolution, which is 1080p for downloading. You can now stream the movies, though there is only the one choice of streaming resolution too, but it worked fine for me and was a very decent quality, as was the download, which was also nice and fast. With 1,024 movies now, and each one running for a good 15 to 35 minutes, you’ve got plenty of viewing time ahead.
Not all of what you will be viewing comes from Southern Strokes, however. Again, since our last visit, things have changed somewhat. There are actually 774 Southern Strokes movies, and 251 from other sites or collections. These are Daddy on Twink, Touch That Boy, Badpuppy, Club Amateur USA, and Twinks in Shorts. Then you also have Compilations and Southern Strokes Classics singled out. Not all of these collections get updates all the time, and some are larger than others, but they do mark a noticeable shift towards twinks. The guys here used to be mid to late 20s or in their 30s, and now, although there are still many guys like that, there are also a lot more twinks than there used to be., White, black, Latino, they get it on together and with older guys, so there’s even more variety for you.
The videos can all be seen in one set of index pages, and they come with large trailer roll-over thumbnails and a description of the scene. Click through to view, and you find that usually, the video plays automatically. You can go full screen and do the usual, and you can also click through the gallery, as most videos have a set of pics. The number of images per set varies, and they are what I would call ‘posed action’ shots taken on a digital camera. The images come down at 800 x 533, and are a decent quality.
You’ve also got a gallery area of Solo Photos, with 687 image sets showing the guys posing solo. A look at the first few pages and you’d be forgiven for thinking this was an all-twink collection, but plough through and you will find more of the traditional Southern Strokes kind of fulsome all-American amateur guy in his 20s or 30s. There are still plenty of them here, and now, a few years after our last visit, there’s a lot more content.
There’s a simple navigation setup here. You have a top menu to take you to the videos, and that has a drop-down to take you to those various collections. Then, you have a link to the models who you can list alphabetically or by date order, and then you find the Solo Photos. There are no ways to rearrange the content index pages, though, so you can’t see what is most popular, for example. There is a keyword search box and a page of 23 tag words that you can use as filters. The video viewing pages also hold a few linked tags so you can easily hop from one seen video to a similar unseen one if you want to.
The video viewing pages also hold a minimum of interactivity. You can add scenes to a favourites area, and you can give them a rate out of five. You’re also able to leave comments if you want. Apart from that, the only extras you find are links to other signups, so they’re not really extras. They are, I guess, already built into the content count in the form of 251 scenes from other studios.
Access to Southern Strokes now stands at $29.95 per month, recurring, which is a fair price. You can opt for a non-recurring membership for 30 days at $49.95, or you can stay for a lifetime for $300.00. Look out for offers. When I was there, they were running an annual membership offer at $70.00 (recurring after one year at $119.95). Also, watch out for two pre-checked cross sales on the right of the payment form.
Southern Strokes has evolved to now contain over 1,025 videos from not only its own studios, but from other, related collections too. There’s been a bit of a shift towards twink sex, with some older/younger, but at the heart of it, there are still the all-American Southern boys with their big amateur, manly cocks and firm, tight asses, ready to thrill each other and you. It remains good quality, easy to use, and not costly to join.
