Gay Comics is a simple site that does one thing and does it brilliantly: it puts the fun back into porn. If it was ever missing, that is. There is humour in the images and comics and eroticism too, there are some hot drawings and some great fantasies; but the design also has a fun feel to it. It made me smile, got me horny and left me thinking that there is more to gay art than simple Anime or Hentai.
So, in the content department, what have you got available to you? Well, the site is simple in that it has Pictures and Animations as its main content. The other menu links are for Chat (which is a forum), FAQ and Search.
The first thing that endeared me to Gay Comics was the animation of the menu buttons. Its a silly thing but when you hover on Home, for example, the house leaps up and down and the door opens, hover over Animations and the camera rolls. A nice little detail for those who, like me, are easily pleased. But on to the pictures
There were 235 comics when I called in, neatly arranged in index pages which were well designed. Each one has an image, title and short description; these pages are in the style of thumbnail pages and you are told the number of images per set. These may not all be your classic idea of a comic in that they dont all feature speech bubbles and Zap Pow Kulnk splashes to help tell the story, they are mainly a succession of images that speak for themselves. But you will find stories told in that classic comic format too, its a question of browsing around and trying them all individually.
It would have been good no know who the artists were here as Id like to look out for some more of their work. There are some fantastic depictions and various artists are represented; you can tell from the various styles. There is plenty of horny action, some of this is also available elsewhere on other sites, and there are many kinds of guys depicted. By which I mean you've got young guys, twinks, chubs, bears and even shemales in the stories. So, a well drawn collection of varied and entertaining images, some in a comic layout, others image-by-image, and all easily accessible and a good size. (1,000 x 750 px.)
The Animations department is a rare find too. Here you've got eight full length DVDs to watch. I say full length, the shortest one was 28 minutes long and the longest one ran for one hour and fifty, so thats a full length scene and then a full length feature animation. And sex is the theme. You can download and keep these, the file sizes are quite large but the movies have also been sliced into clips to make them easier to get to. Youre also told the format, WMV, and the screen size, 640 x 480, so you know what to expect. The advertising images and text descriptions with each title will also let you know what each movie is about. Its a nice collection and lets hope more are added to it over time.
Thats your content: the comics and the DVDs. I cant be sure when there will be anything new as the last news on the home page was dated in May 2008 and there wasnt any information about updates. But its worth signing up just to get your hands on the existing and excellent drawings and animated DVDs.
I mentioned that Gay Comics has a fun design to it and its a good one too. Its bright and clean, someone has paid attention to detail and its a really easy site to navigate around. The content opens in new windows so you dont get lost, there is lots of information and you could spend ages just playing with the happy, bouncy house at the top of the page. Well, I could, but then I like that kind of thing.
You can also get involved with the site as youre asked to make comments and rate content as you go along. There is a members poll on the home page and a search engine to help you pin-point content.
And there is a Forum. The menu lists this as chat but its actually a basic phpBB message board/forum. (It doesnt take too much know-how to customise the default layout and with all the cool design thats gone into the rest of the site the forum does look week in comparison.) Im not sure if its a measure of members involvement or the actual number of members but there had only been 54 posts made in the last year. I expect members are too busy enjoying the content to want to stop and chat. And there was only one post in the technical problems thread so thats a good sign. If you do have questions or problems in the site you can check the helpful help page before posting in the forum as you will find answers there; things about what you may need in order to run the movies and so on.
There really isnt that much more to say about this fun and simple site. Its well designed, good looking and is easy to navigate. The content is both hot and humorous, the DVDs are a great thing to find, download and keep and there is the members forum to check out too. Some more update news wouldnt go amiss; members would then feel happier that an on-going membership is going to bring value for money. But what you have already is well worth the sign up fee.
