Gay Video Base is offering you the chance to view over 1,200 full length DVDs in one place. Its about video watching here with great variety, all kinds of studios and all kinds of genres, from teens to bears and back again. There are over 11,000 scenes to watch already and the site is also updating every couple of days. You have 6,700 or so models to view as well. You can stream the scenes, there are choices of resolution and quality and downloads are possible. You can also get interactive.
Where do you start? You are faced with a huge collection of DVDs and their component scenes and that does feel a bit overwhelming. So it's a good job that the site features some top lists, most viewed, most recent and other options for you to start your viewing. You can always start at the home page and see what is most recent, and here you also see the top ten list and get a cheery welcome message from the site. It looks like there is a new DVD being added every other day, so you'd better get your skates on if you want to catch up and stay on top of this collection.
So, choose a genre, and there is a very long category list which includes Milfs and Tit Wanks or something else totally inappropriate. And while on that note I tried the Best Rated Scenes list and the first one was a straight scene, which was a trifle worrying and I am hoping that the promise of 1,247 scenes does not include straight sex DVDs. Anyway, I found a category that was most definitely gay, Twinks, and was then faced with over 459 DVDs to choose from, and that's DVDs mind you, not scenes, there were 3,141 scenes to wade through in this one category alone.
But I was testing out how the content is presented and I found that you only need to click a box cover shot on these pages to get to that DVDs viewing page. Here you find some basic information first, like what studio produced the DVD, and some linked tag words. Then there are the scenes set out with sample thumbnail pics and download options. You can also look at covers, there is a suggestions tab to take you to a list of similar scenes and if there are photo attached there is a tab for this as well.
I was able to stream the scenes in two choice of resolution and download in two choices of WMV, plus there were portable device options as well. The transfer rate was around 190k and the files were of a manageable size, so I for one didn't have any problems getting to view the content. I did find that the pages started to run more slowly when I was downloading though, so that's something to watch out for, as is the fact that while downloading I had to wait ages for a steam to happen at the same time. So maybe it's best to download later, when you are doing something off site. Also, you will need to be aware that with multi studio, non-exclusive, DVD theatre sites like this one you must expect variable quality. Some of the movies many be old and thus made in the days before high definition cameras, some are right up to date, others are fine at full screen while streaming while others are not, and so on. Generally speaking though I couldn't really complain about the quality of what I saw, it was all just fine.
Ignoring the odd piece of straight content slipping in, the content here is rich in variety, generally good quality, easy to access and there is a great deal of it with more coming at you every couple of days.
What is also nice about Gay Video Base is that it likes you to feel involved. Ok, so you've got the standard add to favourites (called bookmarks here) and ratings functions, but there are also comments and you can read as well as write comments. There is some basic information about the scenes that you see, but not a lot of info about the studios, if any. The drop down lists, which you can opt to turn off, help you find content really easily. There are studio lists and categories, plus series and all those various listings to explore. These stay on the left of your pages all the time and the top menu is also static so navigation is very easy. I particularly like the idea of the random list function, this produces all kinds of DVDs you might never normally think about viewing and is perfect for ditherers and anyone who isn't sure what he wants.
There are lots of other little functions here as well, you can change your password, there is a search page and a FAQ page, you are told the year of a DVDs release and production, those tag words are linked so you can follow all blow job movies, for example, or all facial cumshot ones. You are able, when streaming, to jump through scenes by selecting thumbnails from beneath the screen, these then automatically change the visuals on the screen and with these thumbnails come links to next and previous scenes.
All these functions and lists, navigation tools and links make Gay Video Base a very easy site to use. As you can get involved you also feel like you're part of something and so you feel inclined to stay as a member for longer. Its a really neat site in that respect and nicely interactive.
There are many DVDs theatres out there to choose from and Gay Video Base stands out because of its variety and because it has movies here that you wouldn't normally think of viewing. There is a lot from smaller studios, so lots of titles and guys that don't normally make it to the front pages of DVD theatres. Its good value, you get to keep what you download, the quality is variable of course but generally good, and there are neat interactive options that help your navigation.
